Poker originates from several games, but hardly anybody knows these games.
One of the Chinese or Persian games can be the an ancestor of the game. According to some resources the game came form France. Poker could be played in nearly every town during the Wild West period in the USA. Poker is the only casino game, in which players play against each other, but not against the house. There are a lot of Poker variations, which differ from each other in some features, but still the hierarchy of winning hand combinations remains the same.
