The origin of Poker is still discussed, as nobody can say for sure from what games it originates.
Poker can originate from some Chinese or Persian game. According to some books France is the birthplace of Poker. China was the first country in which card games appeared, in Persia there was a game with 25 cards and 5 suits and in France gamblers began to use decks consisting of suits made from spades, diamonds, clubs, and hearts. So, there are still a lot of questions and disputes about the game of Poker. In the USA the game appeared in New Orleans and it was spread all over the country. In 1835 Poker was one of the most popular games and then it was different from the modern version of the game. Later, during the Civil War there appeared new variations of this game and they became very popular. Stud, Draw and Straight Pokers were introduced and they became every popular. During the Wild West period of United States history, a place where one could play Poker could be found in just about every town. Poker is a unique game as each player plays against other players, but not against the house. Poker has many variations, although the rules of play and strategy differ, the hierarchy of winning hands remains the same. Nowadays you can play Poker in any casino in nearly any country.
