Poker originates from several games, but hardly anybody knows these games.
One of the Chinese or Persian games can be the an ancestor of the game. According to some resources the game came form France. The first card games appeared in China, the card game with 25 cards and 5 suits appeared in Persia and it France gamblers played with decks, which had 4 suits, that we have now. So, the origin of the game is still discussed. New Orleans was the first state, in which the game of Poker appeared, later, the game was played all over the country. At the beginning of the 19th century the game was extremely popular, but it differed from the modern version of the game. During the civil war other Poker variations appeared and they were very popular. During the Civil War stud poker, the draw, and the straight Poker appeared and became very popular. Poker could be played in nearly every town during the Wild West period in the USA. Poker is the only casino game, in which players play against each other, but not against the house. There are a lot of Poker variations, which differ from each other in some features, but still the hierarchy of winning hand combinations remains the same.
