Poker originates from several games, but hardly anybody knows these games. Poker can be based on one of the Chinese or Persian card games. According to some resources the game came form France. China was the first country in which card games appeared, in Persia there was a game with 25 cards and 5 suits and in France gamblers began to use decks consisting of suits made from spades, diamonds, clubs, and hearts. The true origin of the game remains shrouded in mystery. New Orleans was the first state, in which the game of Poker appeared, later, the game was played all over the country. At the beginning of the 19th century the game was extremely popular, but it differed from the modern version of the game. New Poker variations, which were also very popular appeared during the Civil War. During the Civil War stud poker, the draw, and the straight Poker appeared and became very popular. During the Wild West period of United States history, a place where one could play Poker could be found in just about every town. Poker is the only casino game, in which players play against each other, but not against the house. There are a lot of Poker variations, which differ from each other in some features, but still the hierarchy of winning hand combinations remains the same.
