Poker originates from several games, but hardly anybody knows these games.
Poker can be based on one of the Chinese or Persian card games. According to some books and dictionaries the game came from France. On the one hand the first country, in which card games appeared was China and the first game with 25 cards and 5 suits appeared in Persia, on the other hand, it was France, where gamblers began to play with decks with 4 suits: spades, diamonds, clubs and hearts. So, the origin of the game is still discussed. In the USA the game appeared in New Orleans and it was spread all over the country. In 1835 Poker was one of the most popular games and then it was different from the modern version of the game. New Poker variations, which were also very popular appeared during the Civil War. During the Civil War stud poker, the draw, and the straight Poker appeared and became very popular. Poker could be played in nearly every town during the Wild West period in the USA. Only when playing Poker you play against other players and not against the house.
