The origin of Poker is still discussed, as nobody can say for sure from what games it originates.
One of the Chinese or Persian games can be the an ancestor of the game. According to some books France is the birthplace of Poker. On the one hand the first country, in which card games appeared was China and the first game with 25 cards and 5 suits appeared in Persia, on the other hand, it was France, where gamblers began to play with decks with 4 suits: spades, diamonds, clubs and hearts. The true origin of the game remains shrouded in mystery. In the USA the game of Poker originated from New Orleans and spread along the riverboats that traveled the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. At the beginning of the 19th century the game was extremely popular, but it differed from the modern version of the game. New Poker variations, which were also very popular appeared during the Civil War. Such Poker variations as Stud, Draw, Straight Poker appeared and they were played by millions of gamblers. During the Wild West period of United States history, a place where one could play Poker could be found in just about every town.
