Poker originates from several games, but hardly anybody knows these games.
Poker can be based on one of the Chinese or Persian card games. According to some books France is the birthplace of Poker. During the Civil War stud poker, the draw, and the straight Poker appeared and became very popular. Poker could be played in nearly every town during the Wild West period in the USA. Poker has many variations, although the rules of play and strategy differ, the hierarchy of winning hands remains the same.
