The origin of Poker is still discussed, as nobody can say for sure from what games it originates.
Poker can originate from some Chinese or Persian game. According to some books and dictionaries the game came from France. The first card games appeared in China, the card game with 25 cards and 5 suits appeared in Persia and it France gamblers played with decks, which had 4 suits, that we have now. So, the origin of the game is still discussed. In the USA the game of Poker originated from New Orleans and spread along the riverboats that traveled the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. The game of Poker became very popular nearly at once, but then it was a little different from the game we play now. Later, during the Civil War there appeared new variations of this game and they became very popular. During the Civil War stud poker, the draw, and the straight Poker appeared and became very popular. During the Wild West period of United States history, a place where one could play Poker could be found in just about every town. Poker is a unique game as each player plays against other players, but not against the house.
