The origin of Poker is still discussed, as nobody can say for sure from what games it originates.
Poker can originate from some Chinese or Persian game. According to some books and dictionaries the game came from France. China was the first country in which card games appeared, in Persia there was a game with 25 cards and 5 suits and in France gamblers began to use decks consisting of suits made from spades, diamonds, clubs, and hearts. The true origin of the game remains shrouded in mystery. New Orleans was the first state, in which the game of Poker appeared, later, the game was played all over the country. In 1835 Poker was one of the most popular games and then it was different from the modern version of the game. New Poker variations, which were also very popular appeared during the Civil War. Stud, Draw and Straight Pokers were introduced and they became every popular. During the Wild West period of United States history, a place where one could play Poker could be found in just about every town. Poker is a unique game as each player plays against other players, but not against the house. Though there are a lot of Poker variations, which differ from each other, the principle of winning hands remain the same. Nowadays you can play Poker in any casino in nearly any country.
