Poker originates from several games, but hardly anybody knows these games.
One of the Chinese or Persian games can be the an ancestor of the game. According to some books and dictionaries the game came from France. On the one hand the first country, in which card games appeared was China and the first game with 25 cards and 5 suits appeared in Persia, on the other hand, it was France, where gamblers began to play with decks with 4 suits: spades, diamonds, clubs and hearts. The true origin of the game remains shrouded in mystery. In the USA the game appeared in New Orleans and it was spread all over the country. The game of Poker became very popular nearly at once, but then it was a little different from the game we play now. Later, during the Civil War there appeared new variations of this game and they became very popular. Such Poker variations as Stud, Draw, Straight Poker appeared and they were played by millions of gamblers. Poker could be played in nearly every town during the Wild West period in the USA. Poker is the only casino game, in which players play against each other, but not against the house. Though there are a lot of Poker variations, which differ from each other, the principle of winning hands remain the same. Nowadays Poker is played all over the world. Classic Chinese Poker.
