Poker originates from several games, but hardly anybody knows these games.
Poker can originate from some Chinese or Persian game. According to some resources the game came form France. China was the first country in which card games appeared, in Persia there was a game with 25 cards and 5 suits and in France gamblers began to use decks consisting of suits made from spades, diamonds, clubs, and hearts. The true origin of the game remains shrouded in mystery. In the USA the game appeared in New Orleans and it was spread all over the country. At the beginning of the 19th century the game was extremely popular, but it differed from the modern version of the game. New Poker variations, which were also very popular appeared during the Civil War. During the Civil War stud poker, the draw, and the straight Poker appeared and became very popular. Poker could be played in nearly every town during the Wild West period in the USA. Poker is a unique game as each player plays against other players, but not against the house. There are a lot of Poker variations, which differ from each other in some features, but still the hierarchy of winning hand combinations remains the same.
