Poker originates from several games, but hardly anybody knows these games. Poker can be based on one of the Chinese or Persian card games. According to some books France is the birthplace of Poker. The first card games appeared in China, the card game with 25 cards and 5 suits appeared in Persia and it France gamblers played with decks, which had 4 suits, that we have now. The true origin of the game remains shrouded in mystery. In the USA the game appeared in New Orleans and it was spread all over the country. At the beginning of the 19th century the game was extremely popular, but it differed from the modern version of the game. Later, during the Civil War there appeared new variations of this game and they became very popular. Stud, Draw and Straight Pokers were introduced and they became every popular. During the Wild West period of United States history, a place where one could play Poker could be found in just about every town. Poker is a unique game as each player plays against other players, but not against the house. There are a lot of Poker variations, which differ from each other in some features, but still the hierarchy of winning hand combinations remains the same.
